Perennial herb. Leaves forming a basal rosette; petiole narrowly winged. Scapes pubescent, white farinose towards apex. Inflorescence initially capitate, soon elongating to short spicate, with 4–8 ± pendent flowers. Bracts linear to lanceolate. Calyx often copiously white farinose outside, split to middle; lobes ovate, apex acute. Corolla funnel-shaped, pale violet, finely farinose outside; basal cylindrical portion of the tube 0.8–1 cm, gradually expanded distally, limb to 2.8 cm wide; lobes broadly elliptic to ovate-elliptic, entire or 2–4 dentate at apex. Thrum flower: stamens inserted 5–7 mm above base of corolla tube. Pin flower: stamens inserted 2 mm above base of corolla tube.
